100 Day Project

For a long time now, I have wanted to figure out ways to incorporate my photography with some other art forms I like to work with. A long time ago, I had thought about somehow having one of my photographs meshed with some metal sculpture I created. I don’t have a clear picture in my mind of how it would be merged – which is why it’s still in the idea phase.

My sister and I run a prompt art challenge monthly on Instagram, and one of the regular participants who primarily works in traditional watercolors had posted some of her art which was coupled with a photograph of beautiful landscapes and seascapes from photographers whose work she admires. She was following another challenge called the 100 Day Project. The Instagram account behind the 100-Day Project that I am following (there are many 100-day projects) is @lindsayjeanthomson, a writer.

I choose my 100-Day project to illustrate my photography. I have thousands of photos to choose from. Tens of thousands on multiple hard drives. So many it gets overwhelming when I look through them. Recently, I had to do just that to make a collection that would be published in my book. Thankfully the search dog keyword ‘dog’ cut down the number of pictures I had to wade through, but it was still in the thousands. I also had specific images in mind since I mentioned them in the book. So, it took a while.

My 100-Day project will allow me to go through my photography catalog and look at it from a different perspective. Do I want to try to illustrate that? I have just begun this new project, having done only two so far. But as @dothe100dayproject posted recently – Lao Tzu once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” So, you must start somewhere and take it one step at a time.

I did both illustrations using my iPad and the app Procreate. I am not sure whether I plan to do all of this project in Procreate or whether I will expand into illustrator or possibly do a few in a traditional medium, like watercolors. As @Natalie.dadamio.art said “There is so much waiting for you out on the wild creative edges, if you just say YES to the journey.” Here’s to the journey!

Happy creating!
